Seeded players posted comfortable wins in the opening round of the 1st SCS International Open GM Chess Tournament at hotel Swosti Plaza in Bhubaneswar today.
Earlier the week-long tournament with 336 players from seven countries in the fray was inaugurated by Orissa Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei. Speaking on the occasion, Ghadei assured all possible support for the success of the 10-round tournament.
Sports and Youth Services Minister Praveen Chandra Bhanjadeo, All India Chess Federation (AICF) secretary D V Sundar, treasurer Bhrat Singh Chauhan, host Orissa Ches Ad-hoc Committee chairman Asit Mukherjee, spornsors Star Consultancy Services director Triveni Kumar Mohanty, local Parliament Member Prasanna Patasani, organizing committee members Sekhar Chandra Sahu, Kumud Kumar Nath and Vivek Kumar Tibarewal were present at the gala opening ceremony.
The AICF secretary requested the Finance Minister to allot a house for the State chess association.
